Thread lift

Thread lift by Dr. Boulgaropoulos in Vienna: minimally invasive wrinkle treatment

Wrinkles that make the face look older can be treated with a minimally invasive thread lift, without the need for a facelift. This gentle method, offered by Dr. Boulgaropoulos in Vienna, uses self-dissolving threads to smooth and lift sagging areas. The connective tissue is stimulated, which has a regenerative effect and gives the skin better elasticity and firmness.

A thread lift works on two levels: it tightens the face and accentuates the facial contours. The treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, with special threads inserted under the skin using a micro-needle. No incisions are necessary. The threads pull the sagging areas of the face or neck back up without it being visible. A thread lift can be used in the entire face and neck area.

In the first days after the procedure, irregularities and indentations may appear on the skin surface, but these disappear within five days at most. The threads are completely absorbed by the skin and can neither be seen nor felt. The tightening effect of the treatment is visible immediately, while the connective tissue builds up over the following months.

If you are interested in a thread lift, Dr. Boulgaropoulos will be happy to take time for a personal consultation and answer all your questions about the treatment method.

Thread lift by the expert

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure used to tighten the skin. The procedure is carried out at Dr. Boulgaropoulos's practice in Vienna and usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Before the procedure, a detailed consultation takes place in which the patient is informed about the thread lift procedure and all questions can be answered. Possible risks and side effects are also discussed.

The procedure itself is performed under local anaesthesia. Small punctures are made at the areas to be treated, through which the threads are inserted. The threads are made of polydioxanone (PDO), a material that breaks down completely in the body and does not cause allergic reactions.

The threads are placed under the skin in a specific pattern and thus tighten the tissue. The effect of the thread lift is visible immediately after the procedure and lasts from several months up to a year, depending on the type of threads used.

After the procedure, temporary swelling, redness or slight bruising may occur, but these usually disappear by themselves after a few days. Overall, a thread lift is considered a gentle and very effective procedure for tightening the skin, which can also be an alternative to a surgical facelift.

Preparation, risks and aftercare

Preparation

In the consultation, we check whether your skin is suitable for a thread lift. It is particularly suitable for mild to moderate sagging. After consulting us, avoid blood-thinning medication and alcohol for a few days beforehand, as this reduces bruising. If possible, come without make-up. The treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Risks

Slight swelling and bruising may occur for about a week. A feeling of tightness, small dents or unevenness of the skin, which usually smooth out by themselves, and rarely infections are also possible. In rare cases, a thread may show through the skin and then has to be shortened or removed. The threads dissolve over time, so the result is limited in duration.

In the informed-consent consultation, all risks are discussed in detail and in relation to your personal situation.

Aftercare

There is no downtime. In the first weeks, avoid strong facial expressions, opening your mouth wide and facial massages, and sleep on your back if possible. Slight swelling and bruising subside in about a week. Avoid sport, saunas and dental treatment for about three weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Who is a thread lift suitable for?

A thread lift is a soft, gentle method of tightening the skin without surgery and an alternative to a facelift. A thread lift is particularly suitable for beginning sagging of the facial skin, hollow cheeks, drooping corners of the mouth, lowered eyebrows, marionette lines, jowls, nasolabial folds and neck lines.

How does the treatment work?

Once the individual requirements, the patient's desired result and all open questions have been clarified in the consultation, the treatment follows. It is performed on an outpatient basis and takes about 30 minutes. Special self-dissolving threads are anchored in the subcutaneous tissue, usually with two to four punctures on each side of the face. After local anaesthesia, the threads gently pull the sagging areas of skin upwards and backwards, tightening the facial skin or the neck. The natural result of the procedure is visible immediately, and the threads cannot be felt.

Which areas can be treated with a thread lift?

Possible treatments include tightening the jawline and bothersome jowls, tightening the neck, lifting sunken cheeks, lifting the cheekbone area, treating lowered eyebrows and complementary treatments after liposuction of the chin.

Will there be visible scars?

A thread lift leaves no scars. The threads disappear completely under the skin and are not visible.

What are the risks of the treatment?

It is a rather low-risk treatment. Directly after the treatment, bruising, slight swelling or an uneven skin surface are possible for a short time. These usually subside within a few days. In the consultation, Dr. Handl informs you in detail about all the risks of the treatment method.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is performed under local anaesthesia and is therefore usually perceived as only slightly painful. If there is still pain in the first days after the thread lift, it can be relieved with anti-inflammatory painkillers.

How long will I be out of action after a thread lift?

Downtime after a thread lift is relatively short. Patients can usually return to their everyday life after just 1–2 days. However, sport should be avoided for one week.
