Breast lift

A breast lift for greater well-being

As an experienced breast surgeon in Vienna, Dr. Handl offers his patients an individually tailored breast lift. Through his many years of experience, he knows how important it is to take each patient's needs and wishes into account precisely. A breast lift can help to firm and shape the breasts again, which can lead to a new feeling about your body and more self-confidence.

In a breast lift, excess skin and glandular tissue are removed and the breast is reshaped. Scar-sparing techniques minimise the risk of visible scars. Before the operation, Dr. Handl discusses the different surgical methods with each patient and answers open questions. It is particularly important to him to create a trusting and sensitive atmosphere.

A breast lift is a relatively short procedure that is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 90 to 120 minutes. After the operation, a short recovery period is needed for the breasts to heal completely. The result is firm, fuller breasts that give the patient new self-confidence.

There are many options for having a breast lift in Vienna. Dr. Handl, however, stands out for his many years of experience and his patient-centred way of working. He knows how to take the needs and wishes of his patients into account precisely and offers sensitive and competent care before, during and after the operation.

So if you are looking for a breast lift in Vienna, you should contact Dr. Handl. He will be happy to advise you and help you regain full, firm breasts and feel comfortable in your body again.

Surgical methods

Individual solutions for an optimal result

There are various methods of performing a breast lift, and each technique is adapted individually to the patient's needs.

One of the most common methods is the T-incision technique, in which an incision is made around the areola, vertically downwards and horizontally along the breast crease. This technique is particularly suitable for women with marked sagging who need a lot of excess tissue removed.

The J-incision technique is a variation of the T-incision technique in which the horizontal incision runs in the shape of a J. This technique is often used when the breasts sag moderately and less tissue needs to be removed.

The vertical technique, also known as the lollipop technique, is used when the breasts sag only slightly and less tissue needs to be removed. Here, an incision is made around the areola and vertically downwards to remove excess tissue.

The circular lift is used when the breasts sag only minimally and just a small amount of tissue needs to be removed. In this technique, a circular incision is made around the areola to lift the tissue and firm the breast.

Dr. Handl chooses the technique that best suits the individual needs and wishes of the patient. It is always important that the incisions are kept as small and inconspicuous as possible in order to achieve an optimal aesthetic result.

Breast lift: the day of surgery

On the day of your operation, we ask you to arrive at our clinic at least 4 hours before the procedure so that you can check in calmly, as in a hotel. After the usual admission procedures, we take you to your room and the anaesthetist discusses all the details of the anaesthesia with you once more.

Directly before the operation, you are measured and photographed, and everything is carefully documented so that we can achieve the best possible result. We take plenty of time to respond to your wishes and answer all your questions.

We never operate under time pressure; to achieve an optimal result, the operating time varies with the technique, anatomy and effort involved.

After the procedure, you are cared for in the recovery unit until you feel fit enough to go to your own room. Our experienced nursing staff are at your side around the clock.

Once you are in your own room, you can also receive visits from your loved ones. We want you to feel well looked after and are there for you at any time.

Breast lift in Vienna

Breast lift costs in Vienna

The decision for a breast lift is often not purely aesthetic but arises from the wish for a better body image, greater well-being and a natural appearance. A transparent and comprehensible cost structure is an important part of a trusting doctor–patient relationship. Because every patient comes to Dr. Handl with a unique physical starting point and a very personal idea of the result, a reliable estimate of the costs can only be made after a thorough examination and consultation.

The total cost of a breast lift depends on various medical and organisational factors. These include, for example, how much the tissue has sagged, which lifting technique is used and whether additional measures – such as an implant exchange or fat transfer – are medically advisable or aesthetically desired. The type of anaesthesia, the duration of the procedure and the individual need for post-operative care also feed into the planning.

Dr. Handl places great importance on cost transparency. After the consultation, you receive a clearly structured quote that covers all medical services, from pre-operative diagnostics through the operation itself to aftercare. This also includes check-ups, dressing changes and all measures for optimal wound healing.

In most cases, a breast lift is an aesthetic procedure that is not covered by statutory health insurance. If there is a medical indication, however – for example functional limitations – partial reimbursement by supplementary insurance may be possible. You will also be informed about this individually in the consultation.

A personal conversation with Dr. Handl brings clarity about the suitable method, the course of treatment and the expected total cost. Based on your individual wishes and the medical possibilities, a precise plan for your treatment is drawn up – transparent, trustworthy and professionally supported.

Preparation, risks and aftercare

Preparation

In the consultation, Dr. Handl assesses how much the breasts have sagged and chooses the appropriate incision (I-, J- or T-incision). If you would also like more volume, the lift can be combined with an implant. If your family planning is not yet complete, please mention it, as a pregnancy can change the result.

Before the operation under general anaesthesia, a health check and an anaesthesia briefing take place. From the age of 30, Dr. Handl recommends a precautionary breast examination with ultrasound or mammography before any breast surgery. After consulting us, avoid blood-thinning medication such as aspirin, as well as alcohol and, if possible, nicotine, which delays wound healing.

Risks

As with any operation, bruising, swelling, secondary bleeding, infection and wound-healing problems can occur. The anaesthetist discusses the risks of general anaesthesia with you beforehand.

Depending on the incision (I-, J- or T-incision), scars remain around the areola and under the breast; they are red at first and fade only over time. Changes in nipple sensation, slight asymmetries and, rarely, impaired blood supply to the areola are possible. Gravity continues to act: over the years, the breasts may sag somewhat again.

In the informed-consent consultation, Dr. Handl discusses all risks in detail and in relation to your personal situation.

Aftercare

On the day after the operation, Dr. Handl visits you on the ward and discusses your discharge. Wear the sports bra day and night for four to five weeks, do not lift anything over 5 kg, do not stretch your arms above shoulder height and do not sleep on your front for two weeks.

Office work is usually possible after two days, sport after four weeks. The stitches are removed after about 14 days. The scars around the areola and under the breast fade over months. Protect them consistently from the sun during this time.

Frequently asked questions

When is a breast lift advisable?

When severely sagging, excess skin is felt to be bothersome. This is often the case due to natural ageing or major weight loss. A breast lift can also be performed together with liposuction, or afterwards if the skin does not retract by itself. A lift makes sense once a stable body weight has been reached. Good general health is a prerequisite.

Can I still breastfeed after a breast lift?

A breast lift does not restrict the ability to breastfeed after pregnancy. About 5% of women, however, are generally unable to breastfeed.

What are the risks of a breast lift?

Like any surgical procedure, a breast lift carries risks, for example wound-healing problems or scarring. In the consultation, Dr. Handl informs you in detail about all the risks of a breast lift.

Will there be visible scars after a breast lift?

Dr. Handl pays particular attention to keeping scars inconspicuous. The incision depends on your individual anatomy, but it is placed so that the scar is as inconspicuous and invisible as possible later on.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure takes place under general anaesthesia and is usually not felt to be particularly painful. In the first days after the procedure, pain can occur, which can be managed with painkillers. Pain perception varies from person to person.

Is anaesthesia unhealthy?

The days of “harmful” anaesthesia are over. Modern anaesthesia has no effect on the brain's cognitive performance. There are no health restrictions after the operation.

When can I do sport again after a breast lift?

You should avoid sport for the first 4 weeks after the procedure.

When can I shower again after a breast lift?

The first check-up after the operation takes place after about 4 days. If everything is in order at this check-up, you can shower. A proper bath is possible again one week after the stitches have been removed.

When are the stitches removed?

Your healing is monitored at regular check-ups, and the stitches are removed step by step from the 10th day.

When will the final result be visible?

A change can be seen immediately after the procedure. It takes about another 3 weeks for swelling or bruising to subside. Because the scar takes about a year to heal completely, the final result can only be assessed after this time.

What can I do to help the scars heal well?

Dr. Handl pays particular attention to keeping scars inconspicuous. For optimal healing, we also recommend using scar care products and protecting the scar from direct sunlight.

What do I need to consider before the procedure?

Before an operation, it is important to avoid medication that affects blood clotting where possible (e.g. aspirin). You should also largely avoid alcohol and cigarettes. Nicotine can reduce the blood supply to organs and delay wound healing, so we recommend giving up cigarettes as far as possible during the treatment phase. You will find out more in your consultation with Dr. Handl.
