Nanofat

The natural alternative to fillers

The nanofat method, treatment with the patient's own fat, is one of several effective ways of counteracting the ageing process and the wrinkles and loss of volume that come with it. This gives the face back not only volume but also freshness.

In a no-obligation wrinkle analysis, Dr. Handl takes time for you and discusses your individual options with you.

The nanofat method is the most modern form of treatment that makes use of stem cell effects to improve the complexion in a targeted way. Stem cells perform the important task of tissue regeneration and repair in the body. They also improve the blood supply to the skin and increase collagen production.

In a nanofat treatment, fatty tissue (with its valuable stem cells) is obtained through a small liposuction and specially processed. The natural tissue is then transplanted precisely to the areas where volume is lacking. In addition, the stem cell effect supports the improvement of the complexion.

With this technique, wrinkles can be filled in lastingly, dark circles under the eyes treated or lips aesthetically enlarged.

The body's own cells for an aesthetic result

Nanofat treatment is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment used to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin. In this procedure, the patient's own fatty tissue is harvested and broken down into tiny fat droplets, which are then injected into the skin with a fine cannula.

Nanofat contains numerous growth factors, stem cells and other important substances that can regenerate and rejuvenate the skin. It can help to improve skin texture and elasticity and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Nanofat treatment is particularly suitable for patients looking for a gentle method of improving their complexion without resorting to synthetic fillers. A typical treatment takes about 30 minutes and is usually associated with little pain.

After the treatment, slight swelling or redness may occur, but this usually subsides quickly. Most patients can resume their everyday activities directly after the treatment.

The day of treatment

Nanofat treatment is usually an outpatient procedure and does not require admission to hospital. Before the treatment, the patient should eat a light meal and drink enough. The area concerned is first thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Local anaesthesia is then given to make the procedure more comfortable for the patient.

Once the anaesthesia has taken effect, the fatty tissue is harvested with a micro-needle. Usually a small amount of fat is taken from another part of the body, such as the abdomen or the thighs. The harvested fat is then broken down into small particles using a special method and injected into the area to be treated.

The duration of the procedure depends on the size of the area to be treated. As a rule, nanofat treatment takes between 30 minutes and one hour. After the treatment, the area is disinfected again and a dressing is applied.

The patient can usually leave the clinic directly after the treatment but should avoid heavy physical activity for at least 24 hours. Swelling, redness and slight pain may occur, but these usually subside within a few days. Dr. Handl will give you specific aftercare instructions after the procedure to achieve an optimal result.

Preparation, risks and aftercare

Preparation

In the consultation, Dr. Handl discusses which areas will be treated with nanofat, for example dark circles, fine lines or the complexion, and where the fat will be harvested, usually from the abdomen or thighs. The treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia, with twilight sedation on request. After consulting us, avoid blood-thinning medication such as aspirin, as well as alcohol and, if possible, nicotine, which delays wound healing.

Risks

For nanofat, a small amount of the patient's own fat is first removed by liposuction. Swelling, bruising and, rarely, infection are possible at the donor and treatment sites. Because the body's own material is used, allergic reactions are not to be expected. The result develops over weeks and may require a repeat treatment. Rarely, small irregularities or nodules remain.

In the informed-consent consultation, Dr. Handl discusses all risks in detail and in relation to your personal situation.

Aftercare

Cool the donor and treatment sites in the first days. Swelling, redness and slight pain usually subside after a few days; office work is possible after about one day. Avoid saunas, sunbeds and strong sun in the first weeks; sport is possible again after about one week.

If needed, a check-up takes place after one week. The result develops over weeks to months, as the skin gradually renews itself.

Frequently asked questions

When does nanofat therapy make sense?

Nanofat treatment is used when the focus is not on a volume effect but on the regenerative properties of the stem-cell-like cells contained in fat. Injecting the patient's own fat can achieve a little more volume, but the main advantage of the method is that the stem-cell-like cells in the fat can rejuvenate the overlying skin. The method is therefore particularly well suited to treating fine lines and small wrinkles, for example around the mouth, or pigmentation disorders such as age spots or dark circles under the eyes.

How does a nanofat treatment change your appearance?

Injecting nanofat can gently plump up small areas, for example in the face, and noticeably improve the complexion.

What are the risks of a nanofat transfer?

Like any surgical procedure, a nanofat transfer carries risks, although it is a relatively low-risk procedure. In a personal consultation, Dr. Handl informs you in detail about all the risks of the procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure itself takes between 30 and 90 minutes.

How is the fat obtained?

A small amount of fat is removed from the patient by liposuction (usually from the abdomen or the legs). The fat is processed immediately afterwards and then injected straight into the area concerned.

When can I go out in public again after a nanofat treatment?

Directly after the procedure, there may still be swelling, redness and possibly bruising. However, these subside within a few days. Sedentary office work is possible the very next day.

Is the procedure painful?

Both the short liposuction and the transfer of the fat take place under local anaesthesia and are therefore usually not felt to be painful. Twilight sedation is also possible on request.

How does a nanofat treatment work?

Before the procedure, your individual requirements are clarified in a personal consultation with Dr. Handl, and the sites for harvesting and transferring the fat are precisely defined. You are also informed in detail about the possibilities, risks and limits of the method and can ask questions. On the day of treatment, please arrive at the practice one hour before the treatment begins. Our team will then prepare you for the procedure. The procedure itself takes 30–90 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. A small amount of fat is harvested and injected into the desired area. After a short rest, you can go home the same day.

What should I bear in mind after a nanofat transfer?

As swelling may occur directly after the procedure, cooling the treated areas is recommended. Saunas, strong heat and sunlight should be avoided in the first days. Sport should be avoided for at least 1 week after the procedure.

How long does the result last?

Every person is different, and how long the results last is also influenced by genetics and lifestyle. Experience shows that the result of a nanofat treatment lasts for about 3 years.
