A compression bra and a Stuttgart breast band are a must!
The right bra after a breast augmentation is an important part of healing. It should be chosen and worn carefully after a breast augmentation. The bra is often called a compression bra because it holds the breasts together after the operation and thus stabilises the tissue.
It is important that the bra fits properly. It should be adjusted so that it sits firmly but not too tightly and you feel comfortable in it. It is advisable to wear the bra around the clock and only take it off to shower or for wound care.
There are special compression bras designed for the time after surgery that support the breasts well. Wearing the bra is an important part of the healing process and can help to avoid complications. It is therefore important to follow the instructions of Dr. Handl and his team.
What is a “Stuttgart breast band”?
The “Stuttgart breast band” (Stuttgarter Gürtel) is a special compression band worn after a breast augmentation. It is named after the city of Stuttgart, where it was first used. The band consists of an elastic strap that is placed around the upper chest and closed at the back.
The Stuttgart breast band has a similar function to the compression bra the patient wears after the operation. It makes sure that the breast implants stay in the right position and prevents them from moving upwards or to the side. The band also helps to reduce pain and stabilise the tissue.
The Stuttgart breast band is usually worn for the first two to three weeks after the operation. During this time, the patient should also wear the compression bra. The use of the band can differ from surgeon to surgeon and also depends on the type of operation and the implant. It is important to follow the surgeon's instructions exactly.
How long do you have to wear the bra after a breast augmentation?
After a breast augmentation, a compression bra usually has to be worn for 4–6 weeks to stabilise the breasts and reduce swelling. When you can wear normal underwired bras again depends on your individual healing time and should be determined by your doctor. As a rule, however, it takes about 6–8 weeks before you can switch back to normal bras. It is important that the underwired bra fits well and is not too tight, to avoid pressure points.
Why is a compression bra important?
Wearing the compression bra with a band after a breast augmentation has several advantages. First of all, the bra holds the breasts in the right position and shape. The band also helps to stabilise and support the breasts to minimise unwanted movements that could delay healing. In addition, the even pressure of the bra helps to reduce swelling and bruising and promotes wound healing. For these reasons, it is recommended to wear the compression bra with a band day and night for at least three weeks after the operation.
How much does the bra cost?
The cost of the compression bra and the Stuttgart breast band is included with Dr. Handl and his team, and changing to a spare bra is also offered free of charge. If you would like a third bra in addition, it would be charged at €80. Normally, the included bras should be perfectly sufficient for the entire healing phase.
